Maldives Entry Requirements and Visa Guide

Planning your trip to the Maldives starts with understanding the entry requirements. The good news is that the Maldives offers a free 30-day visa on arrival for all nationalities, provided you have a valid passport (with at least six months validity), a confirmed hotel booking, and a return ticket. No prior visa application is needed for tourism. Simply arrive at Velana International Airport in Malé, pass through immigration, and collect your luggage.

Documents You Need

  • Passport valid for at least 6 months from date of arrival
  • Confirmed accommodation booking (resort or guesthouse)
  • Return flight ticket or onward travel proof
  • Sufficient funds for your stay (usually evidence of $100 per day, though rarely checked)

Travel Declarations

Since the COVID-19 pandemic, the Maldives requires all travelers to submit an online Travel Declaration within 72 hours before departure. This is a simple form on the official website of Maldives Immigration. You will receive a QR code that may be checked at check-in or upon arrival.

Extensions

If you wish to stay longer than 30 days, you can apply for a visa extension at the Department of Immigration and Emigration in Malé. Extensions are granted for up to 90 days in total, with an additional fee.

Entry requirements can change, so always check with your airline or the Maldives Immigration website before traveling. If you have questions about documents or procedures, feel free to contact us for personalized guidance.
